WiNE-KNUST, TCC-CIMET Celebrates International Women in Engineering Day with an Inspiring Seminar

In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), Women in Engineering (WiNE)-KNUST, in collaboration with the TCC International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TCC-CIMET), hosted an inspiring seminar that brought together students, faculty, and industry professionals to celebrate the achievements of women in engineering and empower the next generation of female leaders.

The seminar featured a keynote address by Ing. Alberta Amankwaa, Manager of Strategic Partnerships and International Business Relations at ECG, who challenged participants to dare to be the change they wish to see in engineering. Drawing from her professional journey, she encouraged aspiring female engineers to step confidently into leadership roles, break barriers in traditionally male-dominated spaces, and become catalysts for innovation and positive transformation. Her message emphasized that creating change begins with individuals who are willing to lead, challenge the status quo, and make meaningful contributions within their fields.

The event also featured an engaging panel discussion with Mercy Adomaa Besseah, Regional Manager at the National Population Council and Director for Sustainability and Green Office; Mary Arthur, Quality and Food Safety Manager at Ofi Ghana; and Dr. Mizpah Ama Dziedzorm Rockson, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at KNUST.

The panelists shared valuable insights on diverse topics, including succeeding in academia, navigating career pathways, identifying opportunities for personal and professional growth, and building confidence in engineering and other STEM fields. Through their personal experiences, they encouraged participants to embrace continuous learning, seek mentorship, build strong professional networks, and remain resilient when faced with challenges. Their discussion reinforced the importance of seizing opportunities, staying adaptable, and supporting one another in creating a more inclusive engineering profession.

The interactive question-and-answer session provided attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, who offered practical advice on career development, leadership, and making informed decisions throughout their academic and professional journeys.

The seminar reaffirmed the shared commitment of WiNE-KNUST and the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TCC-CIMET) to promoting diversity, fostering innovation, and empowering more women to pursue and excel in engineering. As the event concluded, participants left inspired to challenge limitations, embrace leadership, and contribute meaningfully to shaping the future of engineering.
