Prof. Agyare Assumes Chairmanship of TCC-CIMET Governing Board, Strengthening UNESCO, Ghana, KNUST Partnership
The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Prof. Christian Agyare, has officially assumed the chairmanship of the Board of the TCC International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TCC-CIMET).
Prof. Agyare took the oath of office as Board Chairman in a ceremony administered by the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, marking an important step in strengthening the governance and strategic direction of the UNESCO Category II Centre.
The constitution of the new Board forms part of the implementation of the tripartite agreement among UNESCO, the Government of Ghana and KNUST, which provides a framework for advancing TCC-CIMET’s mandate in innovation, manufacturing, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and skills development.
The establishment of the Board further reinforces the institutional partnership between UNESCO, the Government of Ghana and KNUST in supporting technology development, innovation and industrial transformation in Ghana and across Africa.
The ceremony brought together key representatives of the three institutions, including the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu; Prof. Christian Agyare; the Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Osman Tahidu Damba; and the Director-General of TCC-CIMET, Prof. Francis Davis.
Prof. Osman Tahidu Damba, Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, congratulated Prof. Agyare on his assumption of the Board Chairmanship and expressed his support for the work ahead. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among UNESCO, the Government of Ghana and KNUST in advancing TCC-CIMET’s mandate and strengthening its impact in innovation, technology transfer, manufacturing and skills development.
The occasion provided an opportunity for the key institutions within the partnership to reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening TCC-CIMET as a platform for innovation, technology transfer and skills development, with impact extending beyond Ghana to the wider African continent.
As Board Chairman, Prof. Agyare will provide strategic leadership and oversight to support the Centre’s mandate and deepen collaboration among academia, government, industry and international development partners.
The new Board is expected to guide TCC-CIMET’s continued growth and strengthen its contribution to sustainable industrial and socio-economic development through innovation, technology transfer, manufacturing and entrepreneurship.
TCC-CIMET’s Governing Board comprises representatives from KNUST, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Ministries of Education and Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, the Colleges of Engineering and Science at KNUST, the Engineering Council of Ghana, UNESCO, Member States, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), as well as the Director-General, Deputy Registrar (Legal Affairs), and Director of Administration and General Services of KNUST.
The occasion therefore marks not only the assumption of a new Board leadership but also a renewed commitment by UNESCO, the Government of Ghana and KNUST to advancing innovation and technology-driven development through TCC-CIMET.
