Prof. Davis Showcases TCC-CIMET at the #43rdUNESCO General Conference
The Director-General of TCC-CIMET, Prof. Francis Davis, represented the Technology Consultancy Centre’s International Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship (TCC-CIMET) at the 43rd UNESCO General Conference, highlighting the Centre’s leadership in advancing UNESCO’s mission through science, innovation, and sustainable development.
As a UNESCO Category II Centre of Excellence, TCC-CIMET’s participation included high-level discussions on the need for targeted capacity-building investments in digital and open science infrastructure and stronger national policy support to integrate science, innovation, and sustainability into development frameworks.
Prof. Davis also delivered a joint presentation with Dr. Osman T. Damba, Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, and Apollonius O-A. Asare, Chief Program Officer for Natural Sciences at the National Commission. The session showcased Ghana’s contribution to the EU-funded TRANS-SAHARA Project, coordinated by the Technical University of Munich under Prof. Daphne Gondhalekar. The project promotes regional collaboration and sustainable development across the Sahara region through the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus approach.
The presentation highlighted the implementation of the project in Ghana through the Agroforestry Nexus Living Lab, led by TCC-CIMET under the guidance of Prof. Alexander B. Marful, Director of Business Development and Sustainability. The Living Lab engages water-stressed communities using co-creation approaches to foster inclusive and sustainable solutions for climate resilience and ecosystem restoration.
Attended by over sixty participants from UNESCO National Commissions worldwide, the session recognized the project’s progress and the successful partnership between TCC-CIMET and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, emphasizing the importance of sustaining its long-term impact.
Prof. Davis’s presentation reaffirmed TCC-CIMET’s pivotal role within the UNESCO network, positioning Ghana as a hub for innovation, science diplomacy, and sustainable development in the Global South.
